Thank you for considering supporting St Raphael’s Hospice in memory of a loved one.
The phrase ‘in lieu of flowers’ does not mean that there will be no flowers at a funeral; rather it means that the family have decided to limit floral tributes by inviting others, if they wish, to make a donation to charity.
Asking your family and friends to make donations to St Raphael’s Hospice instead of sending flowers is a wonderful way to help make a difference to over 1,000 local people each year who are living with terminal illness and who are supported by the Hospice which serves the two boroughs of Merton and Sutton.
Such gifts may be encouraged in an advertisement or funeral notice using the phrase
“In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to St Raphael’s Hospice.”
We have printed donation envelopes suitable to be placed in the church or crematorium. These include a space to say who the gift is in memory of. You can ask your funeral director to request these for you or contact us on:
020 8254 2450 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Every donor who includes their name and address on their envelope will be thanked by us. There is also a “Gift Aid” declaration for individual donations. This enables the Hospice to receive an extra 25% from the government, at no extra cost to the donor or us.
For further information on donating to the Hospice, please download our "In lieu of flowers" leaflet.
