The construction of the new Men’s Den is underway and will open this summer. Those with life-limiting illnesses in the Boroughs of Merton and Sutton will be provided with a comfortable retreat to enjoy as “men together” along with their families and carers. The innovative, cabin-style construction will offer a fun and relaxing space for the community to enjoy.

The Wellbeing Centre has offered a weekly Men’s Den gathering since 2017. We know that men often find it difficult to open up and share their feelings and so the Men’s Den provides a space for men to support one another. It began with one guest and has progressively grown into a thriving group. It is a member-led session that offers social and practical support. The sessions are filled with banter and laughs over group quizzes, rounds of pool, board games and so on. Chatting has become the most popular pastime during the sessions, with the group being renowned for being quite a lively bunch!

Attendees shared that they would benefit from a physical space of their own. To continue the growth of the group and nurture this vital support network, St Raphael’s felt it was important to make the Men’s Den cabin a reality.

We are hugely grateful to AJ Building Group who are constructing the new Men’s Den, free of charge, in time for the summer opening. AJ Building have generously supported the Hospice in the past and this is the biggest project yet!

The new Men’s Den is located next to the Wellbeing Centre on our London Road site.
