  • About working for us

About working for us

We wish to attract individuals who share our values and behaviours. These core principles that shape and underpin everything we do, informing how we carry out our roles both as individuals and as an organisation and defining our relationship with the local community. We believe that the work we do demonstrates our commitment to our ideals, to the community we serve and most importantly to our patients and their families.

We understand that every single role within the Hospice is essential in the delivery of our vision. We recognise how lucky we are to have such an extraordinary and passionate team of staff allowing us to continue to provide quality, personalised, safe and dignified care to our patients and their loved ones at a difficult time of their lives.

We believe that working for St Raphael’s is not a one way street and in return for your time and commitment we are pleased to offer:

  • Competitive Salaries: Our Salaries are reviewed annually and benchmarked against similar organisations. Although we are not an NHS entity we offer salaries equivalent to the Agenda For Change pay scales for clinical roles.
  • Annual Leave: We offer FTE 24 days per year for non-clinical roles and 27 days a year for clinical, with an additional allocation of 8 days for bank holidays.
  • Pension: We operate an employee pension scheme and offer continuation of NHS Pension scheme for selected clinical roles.
  • Sick Pay: This is a dynamic allowance based upon length of service with qualification initiating after 6 months.
  • Free Eye Test: Available annually for Permanent staff.
  • Staff Pilates Classes: Held weekly and free for all staff or volunteers.
  • Annual Flu Vaccinations
  • Discount at our shops and Orangery Café
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Training and Development opportunities: The Hospice is dedicated to supporting all professional development. Working for us offers excellent career progression opportunities, with many of our current senior nurses being “home grown”. We are committed to helping you grow your career by providing support to undertake professional qualifications.
  • Employee Referral Scheme
  • Group Life Assurance
  • Quality Care: We are renowned for our patient care, focusing on practicing high quality nursing standards, giving clinicians the time and space to deliver the patient care that inspired them to join the profession.

Equality and Diversity

The Hospice values the equality and diversity of its staff as an asset for the organisation to build upon and wishes to encourage all staff to reach their full potential.  It encourages a healthy balance between home and work life through flexible working patterns and special leave arrangements where these are appropriate.

The Hospice recognises the importance of ensuring that the workforce profile broadly reflects the profile of the patient population and the communities we serve.

Amidst the first wave of the COVID-19 crisis we made 6 additional beds available to ease capacity for the NHS whilst continuing to support all patients, both in our in-patient unit and in their own homes, in challenging and rapidly changing circumstances. The challenge is financial as well as clinical. We expect that our income may drop by as much as £1.4m this financial year compared to last year. Please help by donating today, by making a regular donation or by joining our lottery. Thank you
