What happens if the patient is still on the IPU and you need to close?

As explained earlier we will ask you to discuss this with those who are important to you prior to
admission, so we understand where you would like to be cared for should we need to transfer you.
If you have not had this discussion because you have been on the IPU for much longer than you
expected, then we will discuss this with you. Alternative discharge destinations include home, a
care home or another hospice (if there is a bed available) or to hospital if there is no other safe
discharge destination option.
