Hello, my name is Pam and I’m a volunteer Occupational Therapy Assistant for St Raphael’s. Once a week, I give 5 hours of my time, skills and experience to help hospice patients carry out their day-to-day tasks with confidence and independence.

I worked in social services for nearly 20 years starting as a receptionist until an exciting opportunity came up to train as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. It was one of the best career moves in my life.

From the very first day since I started two years ago, I’ve learned that the Hospice is a happy place. I enjoy visiting patients in the home, In-Patient Unit, and St Raphael’s Wellbeing Centre; where I can discuss their individual needs and make arrangements for suitable equipment to assist with their daily activities. With my experience of working with palliative patients, whose wellbeing is affected by a life-limiting illness, I find it very fulfilling to make their lives as safe and independent as possible.
