Brendan’s sister, Charlotte, shares why the Lavender Walk was special for her and her family

After we lost Brendan in December 2020, the grief was unbearable and each day felt like a blur. It wasn’t until I started to see a way through the grief that I realised it would be down to us to do something positive in Brendan’s memory.

We knew we wanted to do something together as a family for Brendan. St Raphael’s Lavender Walk was the perfect fundraiser – a special walk that’s comfortable for all ages and we could even bring the dogs!

The entire day was beautiful. I wasn’t sure how emotional the day would be for us but any nerves felt beforehand quickly disappeared. The staff and volunteers were so friendly and made the whole experience wonderful. The sun was shining and there was no pressure on us, we could walk at our own pace and simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Brendan would have wanted us to raise money for St Raphael’s. Words can never express our gratitude for everything the Hospice has done and continues to do for our family.

We managed to raise over £1,400 in the lead up to the Lavender Walk by setting up a JustGiving page. It was our way of giving back in Brendan’s memory. We look forward to continue supporting St Raphael’s wherever we can in the years to come!
