Losing her beloved mother-in-law to cancer over the time of the pandemic was a life changing event in Debbie’s life. After a 25-year career working in London for the Department of Health, she decided it was time for a change.

After the hospice in Esher cared for her mum-in-law from the comfort of her own home, Debbie knew she wanted to become a volunteer for her local hospice, St Raphael’s. The support Debbie and her family received during this difficult time ignited the spark in Debbie to ‘pay it forward.’ She immediately contacted St Raphael’s to enquire about volunteering and has been a valued volunteer since.

“I was welcomed with open arms by St Raphael’s Hospice and feel privileged to a part of their family of volunteers.

I now have precious family time as well as the time to help others.

After experiencing the exceptional care, love and support from St Raphael’s at a difficult time in my family’s life, I couldn’t think of anything greater to do than volunteer for such a wonderful charity.”
