In 2001, Dave came into contact with St Raphael’s Hospice for the first time when his mum was ill. 20 years later, he became a valued member of the volunteering team. Three weeks into Dave’s retirement from Transport for London he knew that he needed a new project.

He went online and saw St Raphael’s recruiting for volunteers and decided to sign up. He beams when speaking about the Hospice and how much he enjoys his time volunteering, stating that he has a smile on his face every day because of the charity.

Dave arrives in the morning, starting his day with a hot cup of coffee before planning the day ahead with his fellow team members and other drivers.  “I admire the generosity of people, even the smallest contribution can make a world of difference” explains Dave. Alongside his volunteering, Dave continues to donate to St Raphael’s and support the charity’s Lottery to contribute as much as he can.

“I volunteer as a Retail Driver for St Raphael’s Hospice and I love every minute of it. Everyone I have met through the charity has a big heart and cares for one another.

I saw it first hand 20 years ago when they cared for my mum and entire family while she was ill. I now see it every day through my voluntary work.

I have become a part of a big, caring family through my role at St Raphs!”
