Hospice

We have a variety of roles based within the Hospice. Our largest team of volunteers is our receptionists who cover 4-hour shifts a day and welcome our patients, their carers and our visitors from 9:00 - 20:00, every day of the year. We also have other fun opportunities within the hospice such as serving in our Orangery Café, as an Inpatient Ward Companion, flower arrangers, within our Wellbeing Centre and many more. We also have a team of volunteers who work with our award-winning gardener to help ensure our gardens remain beautiful all year around.

We also run a scheme for younger volunteers over the age of 16 who are hoping to gain valuable experience in a variety of roles with patients and relatives.

Saskia is a student specialising in crisis management and here is what she enjoys about volunteering on reception:

"I always look forward to volunteering, as each day is so
unique and special.
What stands out to me in particular
that makes my time at the hospice as great as it is:

Making a difference and chatting with the family of patients
who are going through very difficult times, being part of a
community, working with other lovely volunteers and also
learning new skills such as communication skills
over the phone and compliance."

- Saskia

Coach/Mentor

Expand

Support coaches in the achievement of their professional goals through a programme of one-to-one sessions, typically one every months. Use techniques such as active listening, questioning, challenging, summarising and confirming action. Gives coaches an ‘experienced ear’ and space to help them understand the changes they want to make, and help embed these into sustained behaviours

You will be liaising with sponsors, volunteer leads, and the Hospice Secretary for the process of programmes.

Receptionist

Expand

We need to maintain a seamless service on our main hospice reception. Our volunteer receptionists are on the front line and are often the first contact that patients and visitors have with the hospice. First impressions are vitally important and it is largely up to our receptionists to ensure that patients and visitors feel welcome and comfortable.
