At St Raphael’s Hospice, our unwavering commitment is to provide expert, compassionate palliative and end-of-life care to the people of Merton and Sutton.
We recognise that the passing of the Assisted Dying Bill in the House of Commons on 20 June marks a significant and sensitive moment for many. This remains a deeply personal and emotive subject, particularly for those living with terminal illness, and for those important to them.
As stated previously, St Raphael’s Hospice continues to remain neutral on the issue of assisted dying. We do so to ensure that all patients feel equally supported, respected, and safe in their individual choices, whatever their beliefs or decisions may be. Our care is provided without judgement or bias, and with the utmost honesty, compassion, and integrity.
Regardless of the recent developments in Parliament on assisted dying, our core focus remains unchanged: to deliver high-quality, specialist palliative and end-of-life care to our community. This vital support is still critically underfunded by the NHS and must not be overlooked within this wider conversation. Hospice care should be accessible to every person who needs and wants it – not an ‘either / or’ within the assisted dying debate.
